July 6 - Denver and Boulder

I really enjoyed my time in both Denver and Boulder although both stays were rather rushed. Both places were so vibrant and lively. In Denver, everyone smokes cigs. We stayed in a hotel on 16th street which is like tourist city. Lots of shops, lots of people, lots of needy people looking for change.

Two of the most popular ways to get around the city. Looks like there are more bikes than cars.

You can't tell but this building says "Kacey" on it.

A small courtyard we found while wandering.

Both Denver and Boulder have the largest population of youth homeless. Its like a Phish concert that never ended. Many of them have instruments and animals including cats, dogs, and large snakes.

I like this building because it looks as though it was created around an old water silo.

98% Chimp

These were acouple horses on display at the Colorado History Museum. Apparently almost every museum is closed on Mondays except this one. Although it wasn't first choice, it was still pretty interesting.
In Boulder, we meandered down Pearl Street after befriending the girl behind the counter at LarkBurger, an amazing Angus beef burger joint that serves soy beans instead of french fries. Pearl seems to be the Boulder equivalent of 16th Street, but hipper. University of Colorado is located in Boulder so it is very young and liberal town. It was also occupied with musicians looking for some spare change, but the quality of music is far better than Denver. One thing I loved about Boulder was that no matter which direction you're looking there is always a background of mountains. Its beautiful.

"Magic Wands" WTF?

After Boulder Jason and I drove to Estes Park where we camped for the night. it is located just outside Rocky Mountain Park. The night sky out there is amazing even if the sun doesn't go down fully until 11pm. Our campsite was small but semi-secluded. We were warned once again that we were in"Bear Country" and to take care of our food. There had even been a bear sighting earlier that week. The thought of coming face to face with a bear is terrifying, but there is always a part of me that would love to just see one walk right on by my campsite.
