July 17 - Cruising the West Coast

We wanted to stick to the coastal highway as much as possible while driving Cali. The views are amazing especially when the roads are most torturous. On multiple occasions we came upon escaped cows, bikers, and hitchhikers on the dangerous road.

Santa Barbara - living cliff side is a beautiful risk worth millions.

We finally know what all the hype is about.

Rocks of a million birds and their poop.

We stopped at Montana De Oro looking for a spot to camp. Although the park was full we hung around for a while because the place is freaking beautiful. I put my macro to good use.

We left the park to find a campground but quickly realized that on weekends every campground is booked from LA to Big Sur.
While looking for a motel we came upon one of the coolest events of our trip...

For one or two months each year Elephant Seals come to the shore to breed, give birth, and molt. We were so lucky to catch this. Hundreds of seals cuddling, fighting, napping, and snoring. Their snores sound like farts.

I stood there for about a half an hour refusing to leave. I had never seen wild seals before. I can't imagine I'll ever really see anything so spectacular ever again. LML.
